Comprehensive Care for Patients with Obesity or Overweight

Healthstar Physicians is excited to announce the first board-certified Obesity Medicine Physician has joined the team. This field of medicine is dedicated to the comprehensive, compassionate care of patients who suffer from obesity or overweight.

Why is Obesity Medicine important?

Obesity is the most prevalent chronic condition in our society according to the American Board of Obesity Medicine. The disease of obesity is currently linked to 13 different types of cancer and over 200 complications that affect 11 different organ systems. Obesity has also become the second most common preventable cause of cancer (closely behind cigarette smoking).

Obesity Medicine is science-based medicine that provides individualized treatment for patients. By working with a patient’s health history and goals, this individualization creates better health outcomes and weight loss results.

Why should I see an Obesity Medicine physician?

When a physician is board-certified in the specialty of Obesity Medicine, patients will know with confidence that the doctor knows how to safely and effectively use evidence-based approaches to treat and manage weight loss, obesity, and obesity-related conditions.

Doctors who specialize in weight loss do much more than help patient’s meet weight loss goals – they also help improve a person’s health outcomes. Using comprehensive, evidence-based approaches to obesity and weight loss, Obesity Medicine physicians compassionately evaluate the overall health of the patient and then help the patient create a sustainable weight loss strategy. This can include lifestyle modifications, behavioral changes, and weight loss medications or surgery (when appropriate).

What are the benefits of weight loss?

Obesity Medicine doctors aim to help patients lose weight, improve their health and quality of life, and prevent or manage the complications associated with obesity. They are well versed in a variety of conditions, especially obesity-related complications, so that they can provide quality and comprehensive care for their patients.

Because obesity can lead to a variety of additional health conditions, getting the right treatment can help patients manage, prevent, or reduce the chances of other medical issues such as:

  • Cancer
  • Type 2 Diabetes
  • Arthritis
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Heart Disease
  • Stroke
  • Sleep Apnea
  • Liver Disease
  • Lung Disease
  • Gynecological Conditions
  • Fertility Issues
  • Low Testosterone
  • Disability
  • and so much more!
